Scholarships
alberto madella scholarship
The Alberto Madella Scholarship Fund was created in recognition of the contribution to EASM and the field of sport management by our colleague Alberto Madella. The scholarship is designed to support current graduate students to participate in EASM conferences and help promote the work of the Association. The Awards Committee will make decisions based on participants’ needs and plans for contributing to the conference. The Alberto Madella Scholarship Fund allows students to apply for 500 Euros to help them attend the EASM Conference and EASM Student Seminar or EASM PhD Student Seminar.
All eligible students can apply for this scholarship. Send your complete application according to the proposal below before May 31, 2026 to the EASM Office. EASM welcome applicants from all over the world, however, the Committee only provides scholarships to a maximum of one person per country, to ensure greater diversity in scholarship recipients. Two of the three scholarships should be awarded to individuals from European countries. The country of origin refers to the institution the individual is associated with.
Please submit your application (proposal, CV, references etc.) as one pdf-file (max. 8 MB) via email to EASM Office by May 31, 2026. The EASM Awards Committee will inform all applicants with the decision before June 30, 2026 via email.
Submit a brief proposal (max. 500 words, including your name, country of residence, current occupation or student status) outlining why you think you should be awarded the scholarship. Please refer to the criteria detailed below to indicate why you would be eligible for the funding.
The application proposal should outline:
- You must submit an abstract to the conference.
- Confirm that you are studying Sport Management in Higher Education (Diploma, Degree, Masters, PhD)
- Outline the motivation for your attendance at the EASM Conference and/or respective Seminar
- Indicate the expected outcome of the EASM Conference attendance for the future individual career, including the EASM Student Seminar or EASM PhD Student Seminar
- Outline plans for disseminating learning from the conference attendance experience
- Confirm that you are not able to attend the EASM Conference and/or EASM Student Seminar or PhD Student Seminar without this funding
EASM Early Career Scholarship
The EASM Early Career Scholarship targets PhD students and early career researchers from lower income countries as well as countries that are traditionally less represented within EASM. The local organisers will award up to a total of 5 scholarships each year, covering the conference fee as well as accommodation during the conference. This newly introduced scholarship aims to foster academic growth and provide financial support to deserving scholars as part of EASMs’ initiatives on social sustainability.
- Target Audience: Full-time as well as part-time PhD students, and early career academics (graduated less than three years prior to submission).
- European Focus: These scholarships are reserved for individuals from less represented European countries within EASM. As such submissions from Germany, UK, Nordic Countries, Netherlands, and France will NOT be considered. Applications from Eastern European Countries, as well as Italy, and the Balkan region are especially encouraged.
- Scholarship Distribution: The committee awards scholarships to a maximum of two person per country, ensuring greater diversity among recipients.
- Application Country: The applicant’s country refers to the institution they are associated with, not their country of origin.
- Presentation at Conference: Applicants confirm that, if successful, they are available to attend and present their abstract in person at the 34rd EASM Conference in Thessaloniki (15th – 18th September 2026).
Eligible applicants will need to submit an Abstract for the conference under the “EASM Early Career Scholarship” track on conftool. Abstract submissions need to adhere to the general abstract submission guidelines. Deadline for Abstract submission for the EASM Early Career Scholarship is April 30, 2026 at 11:59pm CET.
Alongside the Abstract submission, applicants will need to upload a 500–600-word proposal featuring their name, institution, country, current occupation/year of study, and graduation date (if applicable).
In this proposal applicants should outline:
- why they think they should be awarded the scholarship
- their motivation for attending the EASM conference
- what they hope to gain from participating and presenting at the EASM conference
- how they plan on disseminating learnings from the conference
- confirm/explain that they would not be able to attend the EASM conference without receiving this funding
Received submissions will be reviewed and suggestions for awarding the scholarship made to the Awards Committee. Decisions will be made, and the outcome communicated by June 23, 2026. EASM reserves the right to award fewer scholarships should the received applications not meet eligibility criteria or diverge from the award committees’ expectations.
Successful recipients will need to register for the conference via conftool July 30, 2026. Failing to register by this deadline will result in the withdrawal of the scholarship.
Any questions on this scholarship should be directed to the Chair of the Award Committee, Tim Ströbel. Questions on the Thessaloniki Conference and Accommodation Arrangements should be directed to the head of the EASM LOC Scientific Committee.
