Call for expressions of interest – EASM Office Management/ Secretary General

The European Association for Sport Management (EASM) has steadily developed and professionalised over the past years to offer its members more services and play a more substantial role in developing the sport management discipline in and beyond Europe. However, this development has led to an increase in our organisation’s scope of tasks and work. The increased workload is particularly reflected in the duties of the Secretary General, who works voluntarily like all Board members.

In order to meet the future requirements of a modern and co-determining association, the EASM Board would like to reorganise the importance of the operational management of the organisation. To that end, the further professionalisation of EASM will be closely linked to the position of the Secretary General. The EASM Board is considering two alternative basic models for the coming legislative period (09/2022 – 08/2025) and possibly beyond:

(1) Appointment of a voluntary Secretary General who will receive a support package including a budget for the management of the EASM Office and for hiring additional staff. or
(2) Appointment of a full-/part-time employed Secretary General (e.g., on a shared basis). EASM will provide a support package for the salary costs and the management of the EASM Office. This person will be based at the partner organisation (e.g., university, sport organisation).

Private individuals and organisations who feel addressed are requested to submit an informal expression of interest by 15 April 2022 (23:59 CET) to the EASM Office via email (office@easm.net), stating one of the two preferred models and a brief outline of the possible implementation and framework conditions (max. 2 pages). Please make sure that you briefly outline services that you can provide for and with EASM, and an estimate of the budget needed to implement these services (staffing, office costs, and the like). After the deadline, the EASM Board will prepare a shortlist. The EASM Board will then contact the most promising candidates invite them to submit a more detailed proposal. These proposals will be used as starting point for the negotiations with the candidates on the shortlist.

For any questions related to this call, please contact President, Vassil Girginov (vassil.girginov@brunel.ac.uk), or Secretary General, Stefan Walzel (stefan.walzel@easm.net).
