Changes to ESMQ Author Guidelines

Dear EASM members,

This week Caron and I have been made aware by a Board Member that the author guidelines for European Sport Management Quarterly on the website have been completely changed. This has occurred without our knowledge. I am trying to identify why this is the case and to get the currently posted incorrect guidelines replaced with the correct ones. Apart from the lack of consultation, this is quite a serious matter as new submitters are currently advised, for example that there is no word limit for papers, whereas we have a strict one of 8,000 words!!! Other errors include the removal of the structured abstract introduced by Holger.

In order to try to minimise misunderstanding, Caron and I have produced the attached brief synopsis of the correct submission policy. I would appreciate it if you would take note of this and pass it on as appropriate to any of your network who have discussed submitting to the journal with you.

I have to say too that Taylor and Francis has also not posted my recent message about COVID 19, that was circulated to EASM members and the Editorial Board, on the journal website. This is despite requests over two weeks ago. All rather disappointing!

Nonetheless, with best wishes for Easter,

Stay safe.

Paul

EASM 2020 Conference Announcement

EASM 2020 Conference Announcement

The EASM Board and the Local Organising Committee of the 2020 EASM conference in London would like to thank our community for their patience and understanding in this time of uncertainty. Although we have remained positive and continued to monitor the situation, due to recent developments we have had to make an informed and realistic decision on how to proceed with the forthcoming EASM events this year.

The decision has been reached that the EASM Conference 2020 in London will not take place this year. We are very grateful for the solidarity that has been shown by all conference hosts for the upcoming years which has enabled each conference to be moved by one year and look forward to the revised London 2021, Innsbruck 2022 and Belfast 2023 conferences.

Though the EASM community will not be able to assemble in the typical way, we would like to continue providing platforms for knowledge creation and dissemination and networking opportunities. Therefore, EASM will be providing complimentary virtual workshops and thematic sessions which we invite everyone to engage with. We invite researchers to submit their work  via https://www.conftool.com/easm2020/ by 17 April 2020. Further details on the timing and format of virtual workshops will follow shortly.

For students, this decision does mean that the EASM Student Seminar will not take place. However, we are fortunate to have been able to postpone the EASM Summer School to 12th to 16th of August 2020 and we encourage interested students to seize this opportunity. For PhD students, the EASM Board will be exploring the opportunities and solutions related to the PhD student seminar and will communicate this in due course.

Though we feel optimistic that we will be able to continue our community activities despite the current circumstance, postponing the conference will result in a significant loss of revenue for the Association for the financial year 2020/21. The existence of EASM and its liquidity is secured and we would like to ensure our members that the EASM Board is doing everything in its powers to reduce expenditures where possible, (e.g. on forthcoming Board meetings which now will be held virtually). However, in addition the EASM community is kindly asked to show its support and to consider contributing to an EASM membership. Current members are also asked to renew their memberships for 2020/21 via https://easm.devserv24.de/become-a-member/.

The EASM Board and the London LOC would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the EASM family for its continued understanding and support and most importantly to wish everyone well during this challenging time.

Word From The Editor

Covid-19

Dear EASM community,

The current pandemic is having  an unprecedented global impact on us. As academics we are having to adjust to home working and the demands of online course preparation and assessment; home-schooling, caring responsibilities for those in social isolation, as well as, in some cases, unfortunately experiencing illness. In this context you may, therefore, experience some delay in the processing and review of your research. Moreover, it is natural that you may need longer to submit a revision or a review to ESMQ. On behalf of the editorial board, therefore, I thank you both in anticipation of your patience and also for your continued support in these difficult times. Rest assured that ESMQ is fully flexible at this time in seeking to meet your needs.

Most of all do keep well and safe.

EASM Conference 2020 Update

Dear EASM Community,

We appreciate that the current situation may raise several questions and uncertainty. The Local Organising Committee of London 2020 in cooperation with the EASM Board is carefully evaluating the risk of COVID-19 on this years conference hosted at Loughborough University London. We are also following the UK Government’s advice on the situation, which is reviewed daily and appreciate that this might differ from other countries. For the time being the we are still planning to proceed with the conference at this stage, we will be sending further updates on any developments within the next two-weeks. You are still able to submit abstracts and register for the conference at the moment and we encourage you to do so. If the situation changes, we will explore opportunities for reimbursements and/or credit towards future EASM conferences in 2021 or 2022. Please don’t hesitate to contact info@easm2020.com with any questions you might have.

Stay safe and healthy!

EASM Summer School Postponed

The current situation with Covid-19 is an unfortunate surprise for us all. EASM is monitoring the situation daily and we are working hard to develop solutions to these obstacles.

As you may already imagine it is unlikely that the situation will develop quickly enough to allow the EASM Summer School to take place in May 2020. Though it is with a heavy heart that we announce this, we are happy to announce that we were able to find an alternative date and move the EASM Summer School to the 16th of August.

In these difficult and uncertain times we hope that this alternative is still positive news and we are excited to welcome students to Madrid, albeit a little later than expected.

Stay health and show solidarity.

SCOPE

Most human activities, including sports, are becoming more and more technological. Engineering in general and Information Technology in particular are important in the support for many activities directly or indirectly related to sport sciences, including improvement of physical activities, sports medicine, biotechnology and nutrition, sports management, and all other application areas in sports.

This conference intends to be a meeting point for both academics, sport professionals and practitioners to exchange ideas and develop synergies. Authors are encouraged to highlight the benefits of technology for sports either in general or in a particular application. Ideas regarding sports related issues using technology will arise from this conference. Papers describing case studies, advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques indicating future directions in sports technology are particularly of interest. Papers should describe original work in any of the areas listed below.

Accepted complete papers, presented at the conference, will be published in the Proceedings of icSPORTS, with ISBN, both on paper and digitally. All presented papers will be indexed and included in the SCITEPRESS digital library for increased visibility. Acceptance will be based on quality, relevance and originality. Both full research reports and work-in-progress reports are welcome.

Presentation format can be chosen between oral and poster sessions.

CONFERENCE AREAS

Each of these topic areas is expanded below but the sub-topics list is not exhaustive. Papers may address one or more of the listed sub-topics, although authors should not feel limited by them. Exchanges and Mobility in Sport Kick-Off Meeting

Read Sport Mobility Press Release

On the 25th and 26th of February EASM participated in the kick-off meeting for our participation in the EU transnational project entitled “Exchanges and Mobility in Sport”. The key areas of sport administration and learning mobility were discussed to ensure a common understanding and highlight the main priorities to start developing the content for an innovative training programme in sport administration.

EASM would like to extend a special thanks to the NOC of  Kosovo for a great hospitality and EOSE for managing the meeting and organisation.

EASM was represented by Jakob Wikenstål who commented that the  involvement of the participants as well as the hospitality from the National Olympic Committee of Kosovo was remarkable.
